The Jonathan and David Experience (JADE): A Journey Toward Authentic Brotherhood In 2017, after years of struggling to find meaningful friendships with men that were both deep and free of inappropriate behavior, I reached out to a friend, who introduced me to someone else, and that connection soon led me to several like-minded men in my community. These men shared the same desire I had: to create healthy, meaningful relationships built on trust, vulnerability, and love. Together, we set out to create spaces where we could express care and concern for each other in ways that were open, genuine, and aligned with our commitments to God, family, and community. This journey has been one of the most rewarding, yet challenging, experiences of my life. Our culture often doesn’t understand or approve of what I call *intimate, non-sexual friendships between men*. Along the way, I’ve faced judgment, shame, and misunderstanding—I’ve been mocked, avoided, and accused. But despite these hardships, I’ve learned that many men crave the same thing: authentic, meaningful friendships. And the truth I’ve discovered is this: It is possible to have the right kind of friendships—the kind that uplift, empower, and enrich our lives. In our culture, the space between physical intimacy and emotional distance can feel non-existent. For many men, relationships seem to fall into two extremes: either distant and cold or confused with sexual undertones. But there is a better way—a way for men to connect deeply, affectionately, and meaningfully without crossing boundaries or being misunderstood. There is joy and peace to be found in these connections. Through them, we can better understand our divine purpose as men, brothers, and sons of God. My goal with JADE and Kneading Brotherhood is to inspire, uplift, and teach men from all walks of life what true friendship can look like. Each retreat is staffed by men from different backgrounds and experiences, all of whom are on their own journeys toward personal growth. These men have discovered the importance of living in harmony with themselves, their families, their communities, and God. We don't claim to have all the answers, but we openly share what we’ve learned and experienced along the way. A Kneading Brotherhood retreat is more than just a weekend getaway. It’s a unique blend of personal development and culinary adventure. Food, like touch and connection, plays a vital role in human relationships. When we share meals, we discover new things about ourselves and others. At our retreats, you’ll not only build stronger relationship skills but also expand your culinary knowledge in ways you never expected. We invite you to join us on this journey—learning, growing, and connecting through food, meaningful touch, and authentic brotherhood. By the end of the weekend, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and practical tools to create richer, healthier friendships with the men in your life. I look forward to meeting you and sharing this special experience. Brad Founder of Kneading Brotherhood

Kneading Brotherhood has changed my life.   It totally took me by surprise.  I didn't expect the way it affected my heart. I was touched and learned so much about my journey as a man.

I learned to be more trusting and I learned that most men are on a journey and each of us struggle with pretty much the same things.

Kneading Brotherhood is advanced training for men.

I really liked how Brad used so much food to teach meaningful principles.  The bread making was really life changing in that I learned about connecting and developing friendships.

Can't wait to staff a KB weekend in the future.

Thank you Brad, Mark, and Jeff for leading us on this amazing journey.

I have been on many experiential weekend retreats and this one is one of my favorites in terms of enjoyment and satisfaction.  I feel much better equipped to build brotherhood and deep satisfying relationships.  The food and nurturing friendships enriched my soul.

KB is breaking down the social, cultural, and religious barriers (stigmas) of what is possible, true, and beautiful in male friendships. It gives a man permission and the space to explore what healthy masculine intimacy can look like in a Christ-centered environment. If a man can open up his heart to this experience and say yes to receiving and getting the love he yearns for, it could change their relational world.

I had many walls up that limited my ability to experience any level of male intimacy. It has taken me a while to get past my blocks and say yes to my need for masculine affection.  It is a beautiful thing to give yourself permission and the freedom to seek male intimacy in a healthy and real way - without attaching the negative messages/labels of the past. It just takes putting God first and knowing/setting your boundaries.

This weekend is not for all men, but if you have a desire/need for deep meaningful male relationships, beyond the words, then KB can be for you.
